Customer reference: Demeter farm Bogenschütz
The Bogenschütz farm is located between the Black Forest and Lake Constance and it has a 250 year old long history. Grassland, arable land and animal husbandry form the framework of our farm. There are 240 hectares under cultivation. Cows, calves, pigs, alpacas, sheep, horses, chickens and other small animals belong to the farm.
Our farm has been managed biodynamically since 1981. Demeter farms are farms that are managed according to the principle of a self-contained farm organism. Natural fertilizer production to stimulate plant growth and the farm's own feed production for the farm animals lead to an increase in soil fertility, as well as plant and animal health. Synthetic chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and genetic engineering are not used, nor are any additives for feeding the animals.
Thus, the quality of the hay plays a particularly important role for animal welfare and milk production. With our 120 dairy cows, we produce about 600,000 liters of milk per year. Of course, this is only possible with the best forage quality.
We have therefore decided to use HAYTECH to keep a constant eye on hay quality during storage.
In 2019, a hay drying system was purchased. The HAYTECH system is used in the drying process to control the process itself as well as energy costs more efficiently. Afterwards to monitor the further development in the hay storage.
Already in the first year we were able to avoid worse consequences due to reheating of a hay bale above 65°C with HAYTECH. The system has made our daily work easier, as we have been able to reduce or replace manual measurements. The temperature control of the hay is now more systematic, and we always have an overview via the Quanturi app.
